I have had the Icom 7610 for a little over a week now and WOW! What a quiet and smooth transceiver. QSK is silent and fast. Operating digital modes, like FT8, is so quiet, I hardly know I'm transmitting. I've pulled out some pretty weak signals using the filtering and I'm very impressed with the RX. The TX audio quality is similar to the IC-7300. A few have said it sounds like my Icom 7300! I am using the same mics I used with the 7300, the Yamaha CM500 and the BM800. I will get a good quality dynamic mic to try out. The Icom 7610 LCD touch screen is outstanding. Noise blanker, noise Reduction and notch filtering are superb, the best I have seen.
Icom 7610 N1MM and MMTTY
As a prerequisite, always install the Icom 7610 USB driver before connecting the USB cable. N1MM Logger, MMTTY, EXTFSK are the software programs for RTTY (FSK) being used with the Icom 7610. It's a great combination of software. With N1MM Logger+ we also get a nice Spectrum Display (waterfall) on the PC monitor. N1MM Logger+ also has the Icom 7610 listed in rigs.
The Spectrum Display is relatively new and a lot of fun to use. It is only available on a few select radios and the IC-7300/7610 are included.
I am presuming readers are familiar with N1MM and MMTTY and have them installed. If you don't, both are pretty straight forward installs. I'll put links below.
Icom 7610 Internal Menu Settings
Pay close attention to USB SEND/Keying. The Icom 7610 uses two virtual COM ports and we use one USB 2.0 cable. I have a short video on this.

What's new? There are two virtual serial (COM) ports on the IC-7610. We can use one for rig control and the other for keying.
With one cable we get RTTY (FSK) and the Spectrum Display. This isn't possible with the IC-7300 unless additional software (VSPE or similar) is used.

No additional software to create virtual COM ports is needed. Nice!
Everything you need, including the Icom 7610 internal settings, are in the video. When it gets to the MMTTY configuration, pay close attention to the settings and especially EXTFSK64. N1MM Logger Plus configuration is included and it works perfectly for me. There are a couple of tips in the video. See the pinned comment I posted.
Icom 7610 Fldigi
If you want, you can download and install Fldigi for CW decode. Fldigi integrates with N1MM Logger Plus. Install Fldigi and when you open N1MM Logger Plus go to Config>Configure Ports>Digital Modes and tell N1MM Logger the Fldigi path. It's in the video too.
Icom 7610 Reviews
On eHam.net the reviews are coming in. I think one should be removed, because it is incorrect and I don't believe the reviewer owns the IC-7610.

Am I reading this correctly, that I no longer need any type of interface???
Right now I use a home brew level converter that’s worked perfectly with my Icom IC-7600.
The 4 programs I use are N1MM, DX Labs including winwabbler and WSJT-X along with JTAlert
I do want to use true FSK

That’s correct, no external interface, just a USB cable and the drivers. Download and install the USB driver from Icom before connecting the USB cable. Have a look at the videos.
It works FB and you’ll love it.

OK on N1MM, I do have rig control, radio receives rtty ok, radio does go to transmit when a macro is pushed but no dittles. any ideas with that
With DX Labs commander, nothing, no rig control at all

More progress made today, in N1MM I do have dittles and it does key the radio, I have no power out on the radio, Am I missing a setting
On DX Labs I do have rig control but no power out on RTTY also.
What am I missing here????

That’s great! Sounds like you are on the right track.
Do you have the radio in RTTY mode? I put my radio in RTTY mode, turn the power to 100%, push the transmit button and I get 100% output. When I transmit with MMTTY (N1MMM) same thing, 100% output.

Yes radio is in RTTY mode
with power at 100% I have no power output
The scope shows that it is transmitting
Power meter =0
SWR meter =0
I am unable to create that problem. I would go back and have a look at the settings in the radio under connectors again. Maybe something is amiss.
However, I did manage to mess up my CW keying LOL

My problem was in N1MM Logger Plus Config. Bill, go back and look at that part again in the video. After configuring it just like the video, I am back to 100% RTTY FSK and CW.

Just opened my new IC-7610 and watched all your videos.
I am experienced for 2 years with IC-7300.
In your video you say:

I cannot find nowhere this f… driver
When I connected the USB cable, my device manager reports COM6 & COM7 (in your video is 4 & 5).
Do I need a driver?
The MMTTY does not make TX on the transceiver.
The whole setup is OK.

If it’s working and the COM ports are working, I don’t guess you need too. It probably wouldn’t hurt though if you start having problems.Here it is, look for the USB driver 1.2 https://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/firm/
If it’s not transmitting FSK and you have EXTFSK installed, does EXTFSK show any transmission in it’s window? Is it keying the rig? If it’s not, I would install that driver and have a look at the settings again. It’s probably a setting that is off.

Does the 7610 provide on screen decoding of CW?

Short answer, no.
I wish it did. I am using CW Get with WinWarbler in the DXLab Suite. Although I haven’t tested it much, it appears to work very good.
I used HRD and DM780. DM780 was pretty good at decoding. Fldigi is also a favorite and I’ve found it works very good with N1MM Logger+.

I used your video to setup my new 7610 and N1MM but now the 7610 goes into Transmit mode after about 5 seconds after power up and no matter what I have tried I can’t get it to stop other than powering get down. It was something in the setup because it worked fine before I started making the changes you suggested in the 7610 to use with N1MM. I really donât want to do a factory reset to lose all of my settings on the 7610 but I may have to. It is now unusable. Help!

Hi Craig,
Nice to hear from you and no problem. It is probably just an RTS setting in the software. That is most common. I would look at the software first and there must be something set in RTS that shouldn’t be. In N1MM Config my RTS is set to PTT. If you can’t find the problem, go to the radio and Menu>Set>Connectors>USB SEND/Keying. Mine is USB SEND = USB1 (A) RTS. If that is not working for you try to turn it OFF. But, if everything in the software is as I have it, it will work.
Sometimes it’s just a setting that is overlooked.

My version of mmtty does not have EXTFSK64 only EXTFSK. I assume that EXTFSK will work ok or do I have to download the EXTFSK64.

I gave up Win4IcomSuite. It’s radio control screen is much better than HRD but I would rather use the radio itself. Much more fun. I see what you mean. Win4IcomSuite ties up the first com port (A) for rig control when you can use a Ci-V cable with HRD. Win4Icom does not support CI-V.
Followed all your steps screen by screen, field by field and have N1NM working with MMTTY now. I was never able to get it to work with my Yaesu FTDX 5000.

I still haven’t tried DM780 and RTTY FSK since the new HRD update. I was using WinWarbler this past week. I’ll have to try out DM780 and RTTY FSK.

I tried DM780 FSK, it modulates a RTTY signal but it sounds funny. Not sure if I should run reverse or not. Have not made any contacts but it is early afternoon Sunday and the bands are quiet.
I once say a video that said the waterfall has to be set at 2120 or something close to work????
CW did work.
Yes, exactly, I was having the same problem. When it sounds like that, others will not be able to decode.
I was told by HRD to enable the “Reverse” button at the top toolbar, that way I can decode, but I was not able to make a successful TX.
It was working for me at one time, but that was a few versions back.
I want to look at it some more.

I made a DM780 RTTY FSX qso. The waterfall has to be set at 2210 and it stays there. You tune using the VFO, not via the waterfall because the 2210 waterfall setting will change. Yes, “Reverse” on because all of HRD’s apps are USB upper and RTTY is lower.

I thought I posted this comment already so my apologies if it shows twice. I was able to male a RTTY FSK QSO using DM780. The trick is setting the water fall to 2210 and tuning with the VFO. Yes, the reverse button needs to be on because all DM780 programs are written for USB.

Yes, it sounded good to me, especially after I made a contact.
Do other programs like Fldigi allow clicking on a waterfall or do you tune the VFO like DM780?

Fldigi doesn’t do RTTY FSK, it’s AFSK and is very nice and yes you can click and tune like in PSK mode.

I setup MMTTY to work standalone. I found that I had to change the USB Send menu such that USB-1 B is set to RTS to get MMTTY to modulate. Your video had it set to USB-1 A to RTS.
I don’t understand how you got N1NM and MMTTY to modulate because extfsk64 offers settings for just one com port. In my case port 7. I think it is 5 for you.

Hi Brad,
On mine I am using USB1(B) DTR. That’s what is keying the EXTFSK64 (COM5).
I think you can ignore the USB1(A) RTS in the radio setup. That is my COM4 and I use it for rig control.

Looking for help re PSK31. Screen presentation in one big lump. Using Digipan. Used it before thru a rigblaster with no problems. 7610 is not treating me very well.

It’s probably just a setting or two in the receiver. Did you setup the receiver for digital modes?
Have a look at this article and video on receiver settings with the 7300. It is very similar to the 7610.
See if that helps. You’ll love the 7610 for digital modes. It is very quiet.

I’m looking for how to use my Icom 7610 with CW Skimmer directly, connecting USB cable 2.0 back radio and running cwskimmer on the pc, without using HDSDR.I tryied it but it decodifies bad cw received.Is there any option to set ?

enjoy ur vids and webstuff. we also have 7300 es 7610. like then both.
i just plugged in a wireless kb and mouse into the 7610. everything works fb, the cw macros send using f1 thru f8 on kb. however i wud like to use the kb for sending cw without an external program. u knowlike a cw kb.
have no need of a cw decoder but wud enjoy using kb cw. tu les k5lg

I don’t see that option is available in the 7610 using CW. You can use the keyboard to type in messages and send them in RTTY and PSK. Looks like you can only use the keyboard to edit the CW memories.
I suppose you could leave a CW memory blank for editing and then send it. Just keep rewriting over the CW memory. It’s not the same I know.
I use the keyboard in N1MM Logger to send CW. I have used it in my other logging programs too.
If you find a suitable workaround I’d be interested to know about it.
